1. Why do you think the reproduction of image is so prevalent in the world today?
Virtually everything we see in our world surrounds the reproduction of image. It has become extremely easy and affordable to reproduce images for the world to see. You can post your pictures to internet sites, email them to Costco for printing, and utilize image design for businesses throughout the world. As I drive down the street there are many advertisements on billboards. There are street signs everywhere telling me where to go and what not to do. The modern world as we know it wouldn’t be the same without the reproduction of image. It has become a cornerstone in every facet of our lives.
2. What do you think this prevalence bodes for the future of graphic design and your place in it?
As computers become faster and more advanced the reproduction of images will only become more prolific. You won’t be able to go anywhere or do anything without the help or know how of graphic design. The future is very bright. I feel my place in that future will hold strong with the knowledge I’m obtaining from my studies now. I think it is one of the few trades that will only going to grow stronger and more sought after.
3. Why do you think the John McCain drive for the presidency failed to use the Internet (or failed to use it effectively) as a means of communication with voters?
John McCain comes from a different era, a time when the internet wasn’t even a thought. This new medium is like a new language that McCain isn’t familiar with. I’m sure he has a basic knowledge of it, but not like my generation who has grown up with it. The internet is like second nature to us and we use it for just about everything. Social networking is a huge part of it. Barack Obama used it quite effectively in his campaign and it proved to be the turning point for him. I think McCain just didn’t have the internet savvy that was needed to get him to the top.
